I taught a library session for an ELP Academic Prep Course in Business. It was a lot of information in a short amount of time, so I’m not sure how much they retained. I did a physical tour of the library, showed them the international students research guide, and gave them some quick tips on finding Business information in the library. I think it was successful, but it’s really hard to tell sometimes.
I did basically the same thing for the same instructor’s Written Communication class, but I gave out a modified tips, and instead of using a business search example, I used an example related to their current writing assignment – cell phones in the classroom. I think they got a little more out of this session because it directly related to an assignment. I just hope some of the other info, like knowing where to go for help, stuck in their heads as well.
